Food is our common ground, a universal experience.

James Beard

Today far too many of our neighbors are sharing the common ground of food insecurity. For many this is a new experience, for others, a constant companion.  Hunger makes learning, working or even just doing normal tasks a challenge.  Beans and Rice partners with other organizations and individuals in an effort to make things a little more secure.

Our Approach

Food Distribution

At our Radford location, we provide free food boxes every Tuesday from 11 am to 4 pm. Anyone can sign up for a box. We share donated food from individuals, groups, and stores.  Customers use our online signup which allows them to not only select a pick up time, but let us know the types of foods they do and don’t like in their box.  To get signed up, call 540-980-4111.

Pulaski Mobile Food Market (PMFM)

The PMFM is different from our food distribution in that we sell fresh produce and eggs, sourced locally when possible.  We take cash, credit/debit cards, and donation subsidized PMFM tokens.  Everyone is welcome to shop the PMFM!

Healthy Kids Program

This program replaces our Backpack program and currently runs in tandem with Food Distribution.  Our goal is to not just give youth ages 1 to 15 healthy snacks but to share recipes, engaging activities, books and school supplies.  This summer we sent home tote bags with donated books and supplies in addition to snack bags.
